The course provides the student with necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude that provide quality nursing for patients exposed to different surgical procedures in both specialized medical and surgical wards, as well as the operating theatre. Theories regarding psychological aspects of illness are used to develop awareness of the reasons of human behavior, Communication skill related to interpersonal relationships is stressed. The course presents concept of nursing process as a framework guiding the psychiatric nursing care plan. In addition, the course strives to assist the student to promote mental health, to recognize and prevent mental illness, and to participate in restoration of health and rehabilitation of the client who is already emotionally ill.
